Shropshire Wedding Venues Near Telford: A Planning Guide

2 November 2026

Choosing your venue is usually the first big decision, and it shapes almost everything that follows, including how your photos and film will look. As a wedding photographer in Telford, we're often asked which Shropshire venues are worth a visit. This guide brings together nine local venues we've written planning guides for, with facts taken from each venue's own public listings and a few notes on what to think about for photography and film.

A quick, honest note first: we haven't yet photographed a wedding at these particular venues, and each venue guide says so plainly. What we can offer is a local team's planning view. If you'd like to see our real work, our wedding galleries and films are the place to start. Please always check details such as capacities and ceremony options with the venue itself, as they can change.

Close to Telford: Haughton Hall, Lilleshall Hall and Weston Park

Haughton Hall is a Grade II listed country house hotel on Haughton Lane in Shifnal, dating back to 1718 and set in around 35 acres of parkland and gardens. It's licensed for civil ceremonies, indoors in the banqueting suites or outdoors in a Victorian-style gazebo, with the Manor Suite for larger receptions and the smaller Garden Suite for intimate weddings.

Lilleshall Hall, now known as Lilleshall House & Gardens, sits on Pave Lane just outside Newport. It's a 19th-century country house that was once a home and hunting lodge of the Duke of Sutherland, and its formal gardens are Grade II* listed. As well as civil ceremonies it hosts humanist and celebrant weddings, with receptions in the orangery or a marquee.

Weston Park is a landmark estate on the Shropshire–Staffordshire border, with a grand house, sweeping parkland and long driveways. If you love the idea of wide, open portraits with space around you, it's worth a look.

Ironbridge Gorge: The Valley Hotel

The Valley Hotel sits on Buildwas Road in Ironbridge, inside the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site. It's a Grade II listed Georgian building with a Victorian gazebo, original tiled corridors and fireplaces. The hotel hosts civil ceremonies, including outdoor ones, and there's a church within walking distance if you'd like a religious ceremony first. For film, the Gorge itself is one of the most cinematic places locally; there's more on that on our Ironbridge wedding videographer page.

Around Shrewsbury: Albright Hussey Manor, Rowton Castle and Albrighton Hall

Albright Hussey Manor is a historic listed manor house hotel just outside Shrewsbury, with origins dating back to around 1524 and four acres of landscaped gardens. Receptions take place in the dining room or in the Celeste Marquee in the gardens.

Rowton Castle is a 17th-century castle set in around 17 acres of grounds with walled gardens, woodland walks, lawns and a rose walk. Weddings are exclusive use, and the castle is licensed for ceremonies in several rooms as well as outdoors in the gardens.

Albrighton Hall, the Mercure Shrewsbury Albrighton Hall Hotel, is a popular choice for couples who want Tudor character close to Shrewsbury. If you're still comparing the area, our Shrewsbury wedding photographer page covers more nearby options.

North and south Shropshire: Hawkstone Hall and Walcot Hall

Hawkstone Hall is a Grade I listed country house set in around 88 acres of gardens and grounds in the north Shropshire hills. Weddings are exclusive use and every room is licensed, so you can choose the space that suits you, such as the light, airy Garden Room.

Walcot Hall is a Georgian country house at Lydbury North in south Shropshire, in around 30 acres with a lake, a walled courtyard, a fountain and an arboretum. Guests can stay on the estate in cottages, cabins and glamping, so the whole weekend can happen in one place.

What to think about for photos and film

Whichever venue you choose, a few questions make a real difference to your photos and film. Where will you get ready? Getting ready on site, as many of these venues allow, means less time travelling and more coverage of the day itself. Is there an indoor plan if an outdoor ceremony is rained off? It's worth seeing the backup room on your visit, as it affects the light for your ceremony photos.

Think about the season, too. In autumn and winter the light goes early, so we usually plan couple portraits soon after the ceremony. Exclusive-use venues give you more freedom to wander the grounds for portraits without other guests in the background. And if you'd like drone footage, ask the venue whether it's allowed; where it is, we can add it to a wedding film for £50.

If you're local, a pre-wedding shoot is a relaxed way to get used to the camera before the day. Nathan and Tasha's engagement shoot in Telford is a recent example, and you can read more about pre-wedding and engagement shoots.
